Here is your August newsletter with photos and information
to keep you up to date with Safety Harbor Garden Club (SHGC) activities.
COVID and club meetings
OUR SEPTEMBER CLUB MEETING IS CANCELLED
Many of us are more than ready to get back into our monthly
meetings at Moccasin Lake.
Due to COVID restrictions there remains a maximum limit of 20 people allowed in
the meeting room. Current pandemic conditions are still too risky for a full group
meeting indoors.
But hang in there!
The SHGC Board is keeping a close eye on conditions and will
schedule a group meeting as soon as possible. As cooler weather approaches
outdoor meetings will become a possibility.
Folly Update
Folly Farm Nature Preserve is the new home of the Safety
Harbor Garden Club. What a great place
for us to expand our knowledge of gardening and gather!
Garden Club members are still getting together on Monday and
Tuesday mornings to beautify our gardens at Folly Farm. Come on out for a
visit! Members are always welcome to join in. There is a plant ID session each
morning as well as a “walk about” through the gardens (and some propagation
going on).
There are usually 10 or so amazing volunteers each day starting
around 7:30am. When you visit you may see many new smiling faces as we have
added new members almost every month.
Our Folly Farm project has been entered in the Master
Gardener excellence awards. This is a statewide awards program, and we are
entered in three categories: Beautification and Enhancement, Demonstration
Garden, and a Master Gardener team award.
Awards will be announce in October.
Olev and Karen Isak took on the challenge of creating signs for the gardens with help from Celeste and Gary, Chris Dotson, John Fuller and Barbara Nelson. Thanks to these folks for their efforts. We now have the signs installed awaiting your inspection! (Photos below)
The Vidovic clan has been eliminating weeds in the playground and walkways using the tried-and-true hand pulling method. No Herbicides!
Anna Marchand has been hard at work organizing our nursery area and putting together
succulent pots for our December plant sale.
Mullet Creek
We continue to beautify the already wonderful Mullet Creek
Park.
Karen Bredow, Sharen Kuckkahn and Julia Geyer put in some
overtime there recently and really made a difference! Flowers were added, weeds pulled, edging
cleaned up, it looks great!
Already a fan of Mullet Creek Park and want to join in? Come
by Folly and get more info.
